Mental Capacity Act & Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS) – Overview
The Mental Capacity Act & Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS) course has been prepared to ensure that all staff are fully up to date with regard to the organisation’s and their own Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards responsibilities.
The course will enable students to have a greater understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and DOLS. Healthcare professionals have a legal duty to consider the MCA Code of Practice when working with people who lack the capacity to consent to care or treatment.
The Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards course is run over a 1/2 day and is a theory based course.

Assessment and Certification
Assessment is ongoing by the instructor and on successful completion of the course, the students will be issued with a Certificate of Mental Capacity Act & DOLS Awareness.
The certificate has no expiry date, but it is recommended that students complete the course again, as a refresher annually, in order to keep up to date with changes to policies and procedures/legislation.
A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course at any one time.
