This 1 day Level 3 Award (QCF) in Emergency Paediatric First Aid course has been designed for those who have an interest in child and infant basic life support and others who work with children/infants. If you have a professional interest, i.e. you are a child-minder or school teacher, etc, then this course will partly fulfil the requirements of both Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) with respect to Paediatric First Aid.
Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage require you to have 12 hours of Paediatric First Aid training every 3 years, so the 2-Day Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid would be required to fulfil their requirements entirely.
This 1 day (6 hours) course also makes up the first half of the 2 day course.
A minimum of 6 classroom contact hours makes up the Emergency Paediatric First Aid unit, which encompasses both theory and practical sessions in order to give the student the best opportunity to succeed. Some pre-course activity may be required for some students.
A range of subjects is covered during the 1 day course including:-
• Responsibilities of the First Aider and reporting
• Resuscitation of children and babies
• Assessment of the situation
• Minor injuries
• Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
• Epilepsy and seizure
• Wounds and bleeding
Assessment and Certification
Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor with underpinning knowledge checked via a multiple choice question paper. Successful completion of the course will lead to the issue of a certificate valid for 3 years. No external assessor is required for this course.
A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated at any one time on this course. with a minimum age of 16 years.
